In the of God Amen the Tenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy four and in the fourteenth year of his Majesty Reign; I John Dennis of Tiverton in the County Newport in the Colony of Rhode Island and providence plantations in New England yeoman. Being advanced in years and being at this Time under Difficulty as to Bodily health and Considering the uncertainty of this life and for preventing trouble in my family do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say precisely and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of God who gave it and my body I commit to the Earth therein to be Decently Interred at the Discretion of My Executor Herein after Named & appointed and as ______ such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I Give Devise bequeath and Dispose of in the following Manner and form-------

Imprimis my will is & I so will & order that First of all my just debts and funeral charges be paid and satisfied by my executor herein after named

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Robert Dennis six shillings of lawfull money to be paid by my Executor herein after named.

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Thomas Dennis that note of hand I have against him for two hundred dollars to him and his heirs forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Shadrach Dennis that note of hand I have against him for one hundred and eighty eight dollars to him and his heirs forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Samuel Dennis and to his heirs forever that note of hand I have against him for two hundred dollars

Item I further give unto my two sons Thomas Dennis & Shadrach Dennis all my wearing apparel to be equally divided between them

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughters Susanna Tabor wife of Jacob Tabor three pounds lawful money to be paid her in years after my decease by my executor herein after named to her her heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Jerusha Woodman wife of John Woodman and to her heirs and assigns forever three pounds lawfull money to be paid by my Executor herein after named in three years after my decease.

Item I give and bequeath unto my two before mentioned daughters Susanna Tabor and Jerusha Woodman and to their heirs and assigns forever to be equally divided all my household goods except what is left herein for other wise disposed of in this my will

Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Susanna Dennis all the household goods she brought to me when she came to live with me after she became my wife

I also give to my wife Susanna the improvement of my great room in my now dwelling house also the two bedrooms adjoining to said great room during the time she remains my widow I further give to my said Susanna Dennis three pounds lawfull money to be paid at my decease by my executor herein after names I moreover give to my said wife Susanna yearly and every year living the time she remains my widow the several articles be here after mentioned (viz)five Dollars a year, the milk of one good new milk cow, Ten bushels of Indian corn fit-to-grinde, fifty wait of beef, fifty wait-of good port, Ten pounds of good Hogs Sweet fatt, fifteen pounds of dried tallow, four bushels of good winter apples and apples in the summer and fall for her own use and one barrel of sider if my orchard bears apples to make the same and my Executor find a barrel or barrels put said cyder in to. Also Ten pounds of good flax from the swingle, the improvment of nine rods of land for a garden and a priviledge round the house and to my wells of water and to the oven to bake also five cords of good fire wood brought to her door and cut to a suitable length for her fire I also give to my said wife Sussanna a priviledge in my sellar for to put her sauce and the like; all which I order my Executor to do and provide for my said wife Susanna so long as she remains my widow and no longer I also give to my said wife Susanna four ewe sheep to be kept by my Executor winter and summer and the lambs of said sheep have to be keep for my said wife in the season of grass By my Executor but by ? And she to have the profit of sheep and lambs, and if is to be understood and it is the intent and meaning of the Testator that all the foregoing articles given to my said wife Susanna to be in lieu of her right of Dower and power of kind of in and unto my Estate both real and personal.

Item I give devise and bequeath unto my well beloved son Redford Dennis and to his heirs and assigns forever all my home stead farm where on I now live situate in Tiverton afore said bounded westerly on George Brownell partly partly on George Cook and partly on land of Isaac Cook Northerly and Easterly on the six four acre lots and southerly on Isaiah Sawyer together also my swamp lott also my best bed and furniture also my silver header cane and my sword Together also all the rest and residue of my estate be it of what kind or nature forever Not before given away in this My Last Will and Testament to my said son Redford Dennis an to his Heirs and Assigns forever he fulfilling this my will as I have before and shall hereafter order ? to this my last will and Testament I do hereby Nominate Constitute and Appoint my said son Redford Dennis sole Executor disposing him the same duly & truly fulfilled according to the true intent and meaning of the same and I do hereby revoak disannull and make void all and every other or former wills and testaments bequest and Executor by me in any wife before names willed or bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament In witness whereof I the said John Dennis have hereunto sat my hand and seal the day and year Just before written

State of Rhode Island Newport at Tiverton on the Fifth day of March AD of 1787 In Town Council the above and fore going Instrument of writing was Exhibited and was (word scratched out) present and was approved. Isaac Manchester and Walter Cook two of the witnesses being engaged according to law testify and say that they saw the within name John Dennis sign and seal the afore going instrument of writing and heard him declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament and in his presence and in the presence of each other and in the presence of Water Taber they set their hands Witnesses there to and that the said Water Taber did also at the same time set to his hand as witnesses and that the said John Dennis was at the time of signing and sealing in his proper mind and memory according to the best of their understanding.
