BARBARA JAN RICE GILES, age 62 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday morning, November 9, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of West Virginia Caring. She had been in declining health.
She was born Wednesday, September 28, 1955 at Elkins, WV, a daughter of the late James Nutter Rice and Barbara Ann Tabscott "Bobby" Rice. On June 4, 1977 at Elkins, WV, she was married to Daniel David Giles, who survives. They had celebrated forty years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Aaron Giles and wife Ashli of Morgantown; one daughter, Kristin Young and husband Phillip of Beckley; three sisters Joyce Hammer and late husband Mike, and Jo Snedegar and late husband Max, all of Tuscon, AZ, and her twin, Beth Phillips Painter and husband Bill of Elkins; one granddaughter, Adalyn Young, and one grandson on the way, Landon Young; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1973 and a graduate of Potomac State with the class of 1975. She was an employee of the Randolph County School system as a teacher aide with the kindergarten and preschool. She loved working with children and spending time outside, gardening, camping and fishing, especially at Burnsville Lake.
Mrs. Giles request for cremation was honored. On Friday, November 17, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Brendan's Catholic Church the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rev. Mr. Raymond G. Godwin will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV.
