On Monday, October 9, 2017, Willie L. House, Sr. peacefully went to his new home entering the Presence of God.

Bill, as he was fondly called by his relatives and friends, was born, July 7, 1937 in Savage Neck, VA. to Virginia (Bagwell) and Roger House. He was married to Ertha (Carter) House in 1956 and enjoyed the love and admiration of 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and numerous great grands.

The melodious love of his God and his family, the tempo of hard and meaningful work, the exceptional cadence of his fabulous manner of telling of stories and tales, a heavenly voice used to beautifully render music and to spread the Good News, and a love of good food seasoned with the rhythms of a veritable orchestra of laughter and joy, all marked the days of his sojourning in this world.

He attended the Northampton County Public Schools in Eastville, VA. In the mid-50’s, Bill moved to York, PA. While in York, he met, courted and married Ertha Carter. In August 2017, they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Bill became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Richard J. Manning. He became one of Shiloh’s prominent soloists and served as a devoted Deacon. In 2012, he received the status of Deacon Emeritus.

Bill worked at American Chain and Cable Company for over 40 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and softball. As previously mentioned, he was a marvelous and captivating story teller.

Bill lived a full life and enjoyed life. His world was his family and friends. He took good care of his wife until he became ill himself.

He leaves to mourn his loss and cherish his memories, two daughters, four sons, one sister, sisters in law, Brothers in law, his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, among them, one very special, [redacted.]

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years:Ertha House, his parents, three brothers: William, Roger and Isaac House, three sisters: Gladys Fitchett, Virginia Cypress, and Elizabeth Washington, and a sister in law:Barbara Carter
