Ken was born to Hamlin and Anna (Anderson) Garland. He married his wife in 1947.In the early years Ken raised cattle with his dad. After that he was a meat cutter at Barlow Locker Plant in Barlow, ND which he eventually bought and ran until they moved to Rapid City in 1963 where he worked at Western Meats.
He later bought the business and changed the name to Ken’s Western Meats. He owned it until the late 1970’s. He became the executive chef in the restaurant at Mt. Rushmore for the next seventeen years. After that, he cooked and cut meat at Ft. Hayes until the fall of 2016.
Ken is survived by his wife of 70 years, three daughters,five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two sisters.
