Sr. Jeanette Miller, CSJ by The Michigan Catholic • October 4, 2013 Sr. Jeanette Miller, CSJ, passed into eternal life Sept. 21. She was 105 years old and a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph for 87 years. A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Sr. Miller on Sept. 25 at Holy Family Chapel in Nazareth, Mich. Julia Miller was born in Pewamo, Mich., on July 1, 1908, the daughter of Mathias and Elizabeth (Klein) Miller. Julia was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Pewamo at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on Sept. 6, 1926. She received the name Sr. Jeanette at her reception on March 17, 1927. She pronounced first vows Aug. 22, 1929, and final vows on Aug. 24, 1932. Sr. Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Nazareth College and a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Detroit. Sr. Miller ministered for 53 years in schools of the congregation, including St. Benedict, Highland Park; Sacred Heart, Birch Run, and St. Joseph, Battle Creek. In 1985, she returned to Nazareth, generously spending herself in pastoral care to the elderly sisters residing at Fontbonne Manor. Her daily visits and assistance in meeting their many needs was much appreciated by each sister and staff member.
