NORFOLK - Jane Martin Deal, 88, died August 22, 2014, at Harbor's Edge. A native of Norfolk, Jane was the daughter of the late Frederick E. Martin and Frances McEntee Martin, and sister to the late Frederick E. Martin, Jr. and the late Thomas McEntee Martin. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph D. (Doug) Deal and his wife, Ellen Hornig, of Shrewsbury, MA, and John L. Deal and his wife, Gaye M. Deal, of Norfolk; her grandchildren Joseph D. Deal and his wife Jacqueline N. Deal of Washington D.C., Alexandra H. Deal and her husband Cory Brett of Medford, MA, TerriLyn Marin of Oswego, NY, Kimberly Brown and her husband Nicolas Brown of Guam, Thomas M. Deal of Washington D.C., Kimberly L. Deal of Williamsburg and James M. Deal of Charlottesville; nine great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Lois Martin Strode. She was a graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, and obtained her Bachelor of Art's degree in Art History at Hollins College. She loved to read with her book club, paint, and travel to tour museums in her continued pursuit of the study of art. She was a member of the Junior League, the Hampton Roads Garden Club, the Garden Club of Norfolk, and the Irene Leache Memorial Foundation. She volunteered at the Chrysler Museum and was a docent at the Norfolk General District and Circuit Courts. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Norfolk. The family would like to express their appreciation for the caregivers in Memory Support at Harbor's Edge and with Hospice & Palliative Care of Tidewater. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Church of the Good Shepherd. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Avenue, Norfolk. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1500 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, the Rev. James Medley officiating. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. in Norfolk is in charge of the arrangements.
