The Buffalo Times (Sep 11, 1898) - Albert N DeMers of this city has brought suit against his wife Rosalie DeMers for absolute divorce and the custody of their two children on the ground of infidelity. The plaintiff asserts that his wife is living at No. 22 St. Elizabeth Street, Montreal, with a man named Paquette.
Arkansas Gazette (Oct 20, 1916), Special to Gazette from Chicago: Mrs Leigh Wickham, a bigamist by her own testimony, left her husband in 1912 and went to Memphis where she met a lawyer from Little Rock named DeMers. After getting married, it is said that DeMers obtained a divorce from her in Little Rock. In an effort to find the lawyer Mrs Wickham referred to, a Gazette reporter went to the residence of Albert N DeMers in Little Rock. Mr DeMers denied knowledge of Mrs Wickham. "My first wife died about 25 years ago and my second about one year ago," Mr DeMers said. Records in the Pulaski County Chancery Court show that a man named A.N. DeMers was divorced from Frannie V DeMers, April 1, 1914. Oct 30, 1914, an A.N. DeMers was granted a divorce from Lillian DeMers, the complaint alleging that Mrs DeMers had a husband living at the time of their marriage which was said to have taken place September 7, 1914. It is evident in the court records that Mrs Leigh Wickham and Mrs Lillian DeMers are the same person. It is probable that she either altered her first name when she married DeMers or that a clerical error occurred in the record. [article not transcribed verbatim]
