CEDAR CITY, Utah--Dudley Maurice Leavitt passed away April 9, 1999 at his home in Cedar City, Utah.
He was born July 17, 1913 in Bunkerville, NV to Dudley Henry and Mary Hafen Leavitt. Dudley graduated from Dixie College and attended the University of Nevada at Reno where he played basketball. He also played trumpet in the band. He served an L.D.S. mission to England from 1935-1938. He married Ery Rien Cox in May, 1939. She passed away in 1949. On April 9, 1951 he married Helen Scogins in the Salt Lake Temple.Dudley was an insurance salesman with Beneficial Life Insurance Co. and will be remembered for his years of service. He also was associated with Del Rich Real Estate. As an active member of the L.D.S. church, Dudley served in many capacities, including Bishop of the Boulder City, Nevada Ward for five years. He was also active in the Kiwanis Club, as well as being a member of the Master Singers.
Dudley is survived by his wife, Helen and nine children: Bonnie (Henry) Cook, Ft. Smith, AR; Martha Leavitt, Bountiful, UT; Sue (John) Thompson, Branson, MO; Kathie Baldwin, Cedar City, UT; Berne (Jan) Leavitt, Las Vegas, NV; Valeri (Terry) Witbeck, Columbus, GA; Coby (Carol) Leavitt, Sandy, UT; Trieste (Karl) Bentley, Price, UT; Dolene Leavitt, Las Vegas, NV; 32 grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Frehner and Charity Rowley; two brothers: Melvin Leavitt and Francis Leavitt. He was preceded in death by one son, Carrick; sisters: Juanita Brooks, Daisy Reber, Aura Allen, and Eva Miles; one brother, Laurel Leavitt.
