1ST SGT. U.S. ARMY RETIRED
Mr. Booth, 72 years old of Palm Springs, FL died Friday, January 22, 1999 at Good Samaritan Medical Center following an extended illness. A lifetime resident of Palm Beach County, he was a graduate of Palm Beach High School, Class of '43. Mr. Booth enlisted in the Army of the United States 101st Airborne during WW II. He served in the Korean Conflict, and continued to serve for a total of 41 years active and reserve duty in the United States Air Force Reserve and United States Army Reserve. For his service, he received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart, along with numerous other decorations, awards, and citations, the last for the Cuban Boat Lift Resettlement Program at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA. Mr. Booth also served with the O.S.I. and was an instructor for Commando Boat Ranger Battalion and Criminal Investigations. He was also a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Booth continued service to his country with the City of West Palm Beach Police Dept. for 31 years, prior to retiring in 1987. During this period, he served on the Board of Trustees of the West Palm Beach Employees Credit Union, Chairman of the City of West Palm Beach City Employees Advisory Committee, Past President and Life Member of the City of West Palm Beach Police Benevolent Association, Past President, State Trustee and Life Member of the West Palm Beach Lodge #2 Fraternal Order of Police and Past State Chairman of Trustees and "Member of the Year 1998" Florida State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Booth; his daughters, Deborah Booth, Margaret "Maggie" Valcourt and husband Greg, his stepdaughter, Debbie Vache'and her husband Ted and their son Devin, and his stepson, Wiley Livingston and wife Sandy.
A Scripture Service will be held 7:30 pm, Monday, Jan. 25, at QUATTLEBAUM-HOLLEMAN-BURSE FUNERAL HOME, 1201 South Olive Ave., West Palm Beach. Graveside Services will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Lake Worth. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, January 25, from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the American Cancer Society, 5 Harvard Circle #110, WPB FL 33409 or to National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 605 E NW, Washington DC 2004-2204.
