Private Ackerman was a member of the 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 4, 1950. Private Ackerman was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

There's a book called Sunchon Tunnel Massacre that explains his real death date was October 20, 1950 not November 4, 1950. I tried to get his Army records changed but ran into too much red tape.
Above paragraph from his granddaughter, Marsha Ackerman, Contributor 49429725.
