Erwin C. Betts a resident of Pinson, Alabama for many years, was born on April 14, 1927 in Overton, AL and passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ellis Betts and Bessie Dyer Betts and his two sons, Paul E. Betts and Michael E.Betts, two brothers Dyer E. Betts and William Gordon Betts, and his sister Lou Betts Bevill. He is survived by his wife of 53 years and brother and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. During WW2, Erwin served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1953. He worked with the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, MD, and Knoxville, TN, and in the Birmingham, AL office until retirement as a Federal Administrative Law Judge. He was well respected, had a great dry sense of humor, and quite dear to the staff. Erwin was a member of Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church. His professional and civic memberships included the Alabama State Bar Association and the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He enjoyed reading, University of Alabama football, and a special group of friends with whom he played bridge for many years. Erwin will be remembered for his sincere respect for all, his thoughtful insights, his broad interest and knowledge on any topic, his kind and generous heart and love of his family. Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. The service will follow at 11:00 AM, conducted by Rev. Dawson Harmon and Dr. Charles Betts. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Cemetery, Hwy 278 West, Cullman, AL., Rev. Dawson Harmon officiating.
