Catherine “Kate” T. Gregory, age 88, of Auburn Center, PA passed away Friday evening, December 8, 2017 at the Tyler Memorial Hospital.
Kate was born on June 23, 1929 in Springville, PA the daughter of the late John and Evelyn Ellis Blaisure. She married George R. Gregory and they were together for 16 years until his passing on January 11, 1964.
Losing her husband at an early age, Kate was left to raise her seven children. She worked for many years as a cook and waitress at several restaurants in the Meshoppen and surrounding areas. Included in many of the diners and restaurants was Hinkley’s Diner; Young’s Restaurant; Baresta Restaurant; and the Bear’s Den, all in Meshoppen, PA; Finan’s Restaurant, in Dushore, PA; and the Liberty Truck Stop, in Tunkhannock, PA. After her retirement, she loved spending time and helping her daughter, at her establishment, Pam’s Restaurant, in Dushore. Kate was well known for her cinnamon buns, her homemade pies, and her famous potato salad.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, flowers, and collecting ceramic birds. The pride of her life was her family especially her grandchildren.
Kate is survived by her children Evelyn “Maggie” Hegedty of Laceyville, PA, George Gregory and his wife Carol of Meshoppen, PA, Patricia Barrett and her husband James of Hayesville, NC, Rex Gregory (Donna Shoemaker) of Meshoppen, PA, Pam Stoddard (Lenny Fitzgerald) of Dushore, PA, Willowmea “Willie” Hoover and her husband Robert of Dushore, PA, and Dawn Drozd (Scott Christ) of New Albany, PA; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sister Daisy Bebee and her husband Martin of Springville, PA; her brother Melvin Blaisure and his wife Debbie of Elk Lake, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her grandchildren Bobby Welles, Angel Welles Jones, Lisa Vaow, and Joseph Drozd; two sisters and two brothers; as well as several other family members.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, SR6, Meshoppen, PA with Reverend Gary Myers of the Meshoppen Biblical Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
