Kem S. Gong, teacher and restaurateur, died peacefully after a brief battle with liver cancer on Monday, June 8, at Dameron Hospital in Stockton with his family by his side. He was 64. Gong, a longtime resident of Stockton, was was born in Guangzhou, China and immigrated with his mother to the United States as a young child. He was the son of Toy King Yuen and the late Gong Lee Leung, and grew up working in the family's restaurant business.
He received a B.S. in electrical engineering from Fresno State University. It is there that he met his wife of 33 years, __________. He continued to work in the restaurant business and later bought Gong's Restaurant from his parents (formerly Gong Lee's) in 1990 and successfully owned and operated it for 10 years.
Upon his retirement from the restaurant industry, Kem found his true calling in education, where he taught culinary arts at Lincoln High School for seven years. His passion, enthusiasm and humor endeared him to students and teachers alike, and this year he was awarded "Teacher of the Year."
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, __________, his daughter ________ and son _______, his mother, his brother, __________and sister, __________ and nephew, ____.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday June 13 at the Lincoln High School Gym, 6844 Alexandria Place, Stockton, CA 95207.
