JAMES E. 'JIM' JOHANNES

James E. 'Jim' Johannes, James E. “Jim” Johannes, age 65, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Community Memorial Hospital.

Jim and his twin brother, John, were born on the family farm, west of Marysville, to Albert F. and Esther O. (Stohs) Johannes, on June 4, 1952. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1970, then from the Capitol City Barber College in 1971. In January of 1974, he moved back to the family farm and purchased the Wannamaker Barbershop in Waterville. He met the love of his life Gail A. Koch and they married on October 23, 1976 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville settling down in Waterville.

He was a life-long member of the Afton Trinity Lutheran Church, having been baptized into the church on the day of his birth and Confirmed on May 15, 1976.

Jim could carry out a conversation with anyone, anywhere, anytime. He loved to visit with folks and work in his garden.

Survivors include his wife Gail, his three children; Nathan A. (Cami) Johannes of Sachse, Texas, Rachael A. (Craig) Brickey of Omaha, Nebraska and Kevin C. Johannes of Manhattan; two brothers; Loren Johannes of Auburn and David Johannes of Topeka; and by four grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers -- Charles and twin brother John, and a sister, Ruth Sample.

Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Friday, with visitation between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Afton Trinity Lutheran Church, northwest of Waterville. Burial will be at Afton Trinity Lutheran Cemetery next to the church.

Memorials are suggested to either Afton Trinity Lutheran Church or the Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
