The Thomas Family
Mathias and Barbara Thomas left Odessa, Russia, to come to Canada, arriving in Lethbridge in 1908. They lived in a tent and he worked as a bricklayer before moving to Foremost. He farmed with multiple mules and 2 oxen before getting a horse and plow. Mrs Thomas died in 1921 and he married Veronika Selensky in 1923. They moved to Turin in 1926 and farmed there for several years.
Mathias Thomas died in 1941 and Mrs. Thomas died in 1965 at the age of 78 years.
There are 10 children in the Thomas family, all living in Alberta. Dora (Mrs M Vollerman) lives in Medicine Hat; Elizabeth (Mrs J.P. Gross) lives in Grassy Lake; Frank lives at Picture Butte and Andrew lives at Bellevue. Mary (Mrs F Voller) lives at Grassy Lake as does Mathias "Matt". George's home is in Turin; John is at Valleyview; Joe lives in Lethbridge. Kate married Robert Harvie in 1935 and they have lived in the Picture Butte community for several years.

Mathias first Immigrated to the US in 1904 with wife Barbara, daughter Anna and stepsisters Eugenia and Helen Mildenberger. The Thomas family went to his brother Felix Thomas in Balfour ND.
His father Franz Thomas and wife Rose Mildenberger Thomas arrived in the US in 1910 along with son Johannes Thomas. Franz's daughter, Barbara Lauber, remained in Strassburg, Russia at that time.
