Earl H. Bals, 84 of Ravenna, NE died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ravenna. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Higgins funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

Earl H. Bals was born August 13, 1933 on a farm north of Loup City to Theodore and Anna (Kempkes) Bals. Earl was the sixth of seven children. Earl married Jolita Crist on November 10, 1956 at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. They have been married for 61 years.

Earl worked at the Creamery in Loup City when he was in his 20's, then he tried his hand at farming for a few years. Beginning in 1964, he started his lifelong job at Henningsen Foods in Ravenna. He worked his way up to Plant Manager and continued there until his retirement in 1997

He is survived by his wife, Jolita of Ravenna, NE; son, Leroy of Kearney; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Janet of Gretna, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Ken Bruce of Ravenna, NE; son and special friend, Kevin and Sheryl of Ulysses, NE; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Colette of Ravenna, NE; eighteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, many of whom live near Ravenna.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sylvester, Harold, Don and Loren and sisters, Reatha Lewis and Mickey Michielutti.
