Born in Edneyville, she was a daughter of the late Ola and Ed Brown. Tillie was a legal secretary for 35 years for Howe and Waters and Carpenter and Moxley. She was also a member of the American Business Association for more than 25 years and Woman of the Year in 1983, Appleville Charter Chapter.
Tillie is survived by her husband of 60 years, James R. Cairnes; her children, Cynthia Cairnes, Andrew Cairnes (Christie) and Christa Roets (Scott); her grandchildren, Tiffany Cairnes, Isaac Roets and Joshua Roets; sisters, Carrie Davis (Keith), Beulah Freeman, Edna Rubelmann and Grace Melton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Tillie will forever be remembered as a quintessential Southern Lady, a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother and “A beautiful soul to many.”
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery.
