He was born on December 11, 1936 in Wayne County, Missouri; son of the late Marion and Opal “Miller” Abernathy. He and Gayle Abernathy were united in marriage on April 21, 1961 and she passed away on November 28, 2008.
He served his country proudly as a US Marine.
He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Wayne Abernathy, Jeffrey Abernathy, and Robert Abernathy; daughter Susan Horton; three sisters Billie Basye, Mary Hagan, Jo Anne Sauvageau; seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, and brother Gene Abernathy.
