Ruthie Mae Yarber Tippens, 94, passed away on Tuesday, December 12. The celebration of her life was held Tuesday, December 19, at Lott's Mortuary Funeral Chapel, 2434 Martin Luther King Blvd., Dallas. Interment followed at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Born August 9, 1923 in Oakwood, Freestone County, TX, she moved to Dallas in 1941 graduating from Lincoln High School in 1943 and from Phillips Business College in 1945. She pursued a career in business and accounting working at Excelsior Insurance Company; Lott's Insurance Company; and Dallas Independent School District (South Oak Cliff High School). Formerly a long-time, faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, she became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in January 1988, attending regularly until her health failed. Isaac, whom she married on December 29, 1943, preceded her in death. She is survived by daughters, Regina Tippens (Cincinnati, OH) and Brenda Tippens Sterling (Dallas); and by grandchildren, Rhonda Sterling Smith and Ron Sterling, Jr. (Suzanne); great grand-children, James Smith III, Lacey Smith, Ron Sterling III, Devin Sterling, Sanaa Smith, and Jaylon Sterling; and great great grandchild, Landon Washington.
