Nathaniel was the son of Sgt. John Badger and Hannah Swett Badger. His parents died in a smallpox epidemic in 1691, and they left 10 children, ranging in age from 1 to 20, behind them. Nathaniel was 16 at the time, the third oldest, and it fell to the older children and other relatives, to care for the younger children. Nathaniel married Mary Lunt in 1693, and they had 11 children (10 born in Newbury, the last in Franklin, CT): John b. 1694; Nathaniel b. 1695; Daniel b. 1698; Mehitable b. 1700; Edmund b. 1703; Mary 1705-1706; Mary b 1708; Samuel b. 1710; Anne b. 1712; Enoch b. 1714; and Henry 1717-1812. Nathaniel owned and operated a mill in Newbury. In 1715 he sold the mill and other property there, and moved to Connecticut. There, his 11th child, Henry was born. They remained in Franklin until 1734, then moved to Union, Connecticut. Finally, they moved to Coventry, where both Nathaniel and his wife, Mary died.
