Laurel Ann Caldwell, 76, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at her home in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Laurel was born March 29, 1941 in Healdton, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Mexie Miles Jr. and Willie Louise Johnson Davis.
Lori moved several times throughout her childhood due to her father following the oil field. They resided for many years in Edmond where she attended the majority of her high school. During her last semester of her senior year, they moved to Laverne, Oklahoma where she graduated with the Class of 1959. Following high school, Lori attended Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma.
During that time, she met the love of her life, Max Franklin Caldwell Sr. The two were united in marriage on August 5, 1960 in Laverne, Oklahoma. They moved to Monte Vista, Colorado. While living in Monte Vista, Lori began attending college at Adams State. She later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Library Science in 1965. During her time in Colorado she worked at Production Credit and C.R. Anthony’s. Lori and Max later moved to Pueblo and during that time she taught English. In 1966, they moved the family to Hooker, Oklahoma where she taught English as well acting as the librarian. In 1977, Lori and Max moved to Cleveland where she was the middle school librarian until she retired in 2005. Following retirement Lori, wanted to remain active and volunteered weekly at the Jay C. Byers Memorial Library.
Lori enjoyed knitting, quilting and especially loved to read. She was an avid walker and enjoyed helping Max work in the yard. Lori also had a hidden talent and was offered an art scholarship which she turned down. She was often recruited for projects and helped design numerous posters during the times her children were in school. She was a pep club sponsor for many years as well.
Spending time with her grandchildren was a number one priority. Lori and Max for many years took all the grandchildren on yearly summer vacations. It started out at Oklahoma State Parks but eventually evolved into farther destinations. As things kept going, they soon were annual family vacations with the graduating grandchild picking the destination.
Survivors are her loving husband of 57 years, Max of the home, three children, Max Caldwell Jr. of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Terri Yee of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Kerry Crown and her husband Charlie of Cleveland, Oklahoma, five grandchildren, Sunnye Caldwell, Max Caldwell III, Colton Caldwell and Angelica, Miles Caldwell and Destiny, Chelsea Boyd and Corey, two great grandchildren, Gracelynn and Daeviny Caldwell as well as other family and friends. Lori was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Billie Max “Butch" Davis and son-in-law, Jon Yee.
