Elizabeth “Beth” Agnes (Wallace) Hugel, 96, passed away on December 23, 2017, in Concord, California. The daughter of Carl Hobson Wallace and Laura Margaret Graf, Elizabeth was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin and was named in honor of both of her grandmothers. Raised in Baraboo, Denver, and Los Angeles, she enjoyed many travels by train and early automobiles with her parents, Carl and Laura; one such adventure included the pleasure of attending the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. At age 18, Beth married Allan Edward Parker, merchant marine, and they started a family, later relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area.
After the unexpected loss of her husband Allan in 1957, Beth met and married Benedict “Ben” G. Hugel whom she remained married to for 44 years. Some of Beth’s fondest memories were of their cozy red-log cabin in Cambria, California where she enjoyed time spent gardening, making ceramics and frequenting yard sales and flea markets, and of Sutherlin, Oregon, where Ben and Beth were residents of the Timber Valley SKP Park until Ben’s passing in 2002.
Burial is planned for the Roseburg National Cemetery in Roseburg, Oregon.
