NEWPORT—Edith Velma Burnham, 94, died December 26, 2017 at a Dexter health care facility. She was born December 10, 1923 in Freedom, a daughter of Arthur and Beulah (Welch) Shorey.

Edith had been employed at the Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna and later employed as a handsewer for many years. Following retirement, she was an active volunteer for Meals for ME program in Newport and the Newport Area Share Program. She was a member of the Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile Club, Pittsfield Women’s Bowling League, and Newport Senior Citizens. Edith was an avid camper.

She is survived by a son, George Burnham, Jr. and his friend Glenda Weymouth, who was like a daughter to Edith, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Maxine and husband Keith Thompson of Newport; a sister, Beverly Stankevitz of Corinna; 4 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Edith was predeceased by her husband, George Burnham, Sr. in 1991; as well as 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
