William Venner, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. In celebration we remember Bill's unique and beautiful spirit. In our laughter and smiles, he is with us always. Bill Venner, a loving husband and father, was committed to his family and to the Barstow area community. Bill, the son of William and Mary Venner, grew up in Superior, Wisconsin. He graduated from high school in Duluth, Minnesota before serving our country as a sergeant in the combat engineers, in Europe during World War II. He served in France, Germany, and Austria, and earned a bronze star for bravery.
Bill earned a degree in education from San Diego State University. He served the Barstow area as an educator for over 50 years, teaching, or as an administrator in Daggett, Hinkley, Grandview, Lenwood, and Barstow.
Bill was a devoted Catholic, serving both Mt. St. Joseph's Church and the Philip Nearing Parish in Lenwood. He was an avid reader, an enthusiastic traveler, and a remarkable story teller.
Bill's kindness, sense of humor, and commitment to family was evident in all he did. His life was a testament to his Catholic faith. We will miss him greatly.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly Ann Venner, of Barstow. His loving descendants include four children; Kathy Ridler and her husband Rod, of Newberry Springs; Chris Venner and his wife Tina of Los Osos, CA; Mary Wages of Newberry Springs; and Tom Venner and his wife Annie of Charlotte, NC. Bill also has three grandchildren; Kristy Stephens of Yermo, Jamie Wages of Globe, AZ, and Josh Venner of Carrollton, VA.
Bill is survived by one sister, Anna Mae Ringo of Coos Bay, OR.
Funeral services will be on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11:00AM at Mt. St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Charles officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memorial Park.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made in honor of William J. Venner to the American Cancer Society.
