Alberta Marie Haught, 93, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Carehaven of Pleasants in Belmont, WV. She was born, January 6, 1924, in Fairview, WV, a daughter the late Linza and Agatha Toothman Rinehart.

Alberta was a talented artist and painted many West Virginia scenes on flower pots and furniture. She had planned to paint a scene of the Ohio River at the “Jug” in Newport, Ohio, before she became too ill to paint. She and her husband, Rex and family loved to eat at the “Jug” and enjoyed the scenery. Alberta also did faux painting on walls of her house, before it became popular.

Albert loved to work in her yard and plant flowers. The yard always looked beautiful, and many prom kids would have their pictures taken in front of the rhododendron tree out in front of the house. Alberta loved to bake and she and her sister, Bonnie Steele, exchanged recipes and sent them to large companies for review.

Alberta studied for 2 years to become an adult bible teacher. She taught the “Joy” adult class for many years at the First Baptist Church in St. Marys, with Danny Chandler as substitute teacher. There were many “Alberta” stories. Alberta volunteered and headed the clothing store at the First Baptist Church in St. Marys to help those in need. She spent many years in this capacity and loved the workers and she enjoyed helping others find clothing. Alberta also sang in the choir and taught a children’s bible class. She loved gospel music especially the Gaithers.

Alberta is survived by two children, Shirley Haught-Garrison of St. Marys, WV, and Greg Haught of Excelsior Springs, MO, sister-in-law, Carrie Rinehart of Melborne, FL, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Haught, daughter, Mona Haught, sisters, Naomi Toothman, Leola Haught, Bonnie Steele, and brothers, Albert Rinehart, June Rinehart, and Foster Rinehart.

Services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017, at 11 A. M. at the Ingram Funeral Home in St. Marys, WV, with Pastor Joe Webb officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasants Memorial Estates in Eureka, WV.
