He was raised in Westfield, N.J., and later lived in Rio del Mar for more than 20 years.
He was in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol Lee Sendell; sons William C. Sendell IV of Pebble Beach and Geoff Sendell of Santa Cruz; brothers Stuart Sendell of Morristown, N.J., and Scott Sendell of Sea Girt, N.J.; mother Joyce Sendell of Sea Girt, N.J.; and two grandchildren.
