cause of death, drive by shooting

FLINT (WJRT) (1/1/2018) - Residents in a north Flint neighborhood are frightened after the second shooting in a matter of weeks left a 10-year-old in critical condition.

Jacques Ja’mon Allen was shot when someone drove by and fired several gunshots at 5501 Granville Ave. around 10 p.m. Monday. Numerous bullet holes are visible in a window, along with cracked blinds.

Police have not said where Allen was inside the house during the shooting or how many others were inside at the time. Allen remained in critical condition at an area hospital on Tuesday.

Neighbors say someone else was shot very close to the residence on Granville Avenue, also in a drive-by. The other victim was a teenager, who has no relation to the family who lives there.

A neighbor said Monday's shooting sounded like fireworks. She did not want to be identified, fearing she could be the next target.

The woman looked out her window to see the street immediately covered in police cars. When she heard the boy was injured, she says she was heartbroken.

"He's a happy-go-lucky kid who got along with everyone in the neighborhood and not a single problem," the neighbor said. "He's just the sweetest kid in the world. I just can't fathom what happened or why they would do that."

The neighbor, who is thinking about moving, plans to stay inside much more and keeping her lights on at night.

Police are investigating whether the two shootings are related.

Anyone with any information about either shooting is asked to call the Flint Police Department at 810-237-6900 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL.
