Asbury Gamewell “Ace” LaMotte was born in South Carolina, a son of Asbury Gamewell Lamotte and Frances Cossitt Golladay. He had siblings Louis Cossitt, Frank W., Thomas J. and Edward Golloway. (Obituary had name LaMotte, while father used La Motte).

He was a Navy veteran of World War I and and a member of the American Legion.

He was married to Margaret A. 1901 GA-1981 CA (maiden name unknown) by 1930 and living in a hotel in Medford, Oregon where he was a salesman for a food manufacturer. In 1940 they were in Los Angeles where he was an agent.

In 1945 he married Verna Mae Everett 1918-2005 in Washington, D.C.

Ace was the former president of the Arizona Neon Advertising Co. and sales manager for the Myers-Leiber Sign Co.

He was president of the Arizona Sign Association for 10 years, chairman of the legislative committee for the Arizona sign industry; served three years on the Madison Citizens Committee, eight years on the Madison School Board, two years on the board of the Valley of the Sun School and three years on the board of the Phoenix Day Nursery.

Before he came to Phoenix in 1946, he was a director in the Office of Price Administration in San Francisco.

Survivors included his wife, Vern; and three brothers out of state.
