Rachel Kirk was a daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Bonar) Kirk, and was born in about 1820 in Licking Township, Licking County, Ohio.

Her relationship to her father Thomas Kirk is documented in a May 15, 1848 land transaction where she is a named heir and sells her inherited 16.5 acres as part of a quitclaim with her siblings. She sold the land for $154.54.

Rachel Kirk is enumerated in the 1850 census in the household of her sister Jane (Kirk) Tracy. They live in Crawford County, Illinois.

Later in 1850, on December 3rd, she married Joseph McConn in Crawford County.

She is believed to have died in about 1852 because Joseph McConn remarried on September 15, 1853 to Rebecca Peecock. Perhaps she died in/after childbirth.

No death record has been found for Rachel. The Kirk Genealogy published in 1992 by Donald and Theresa Kirk stated that Rachel was buried in Lindley Cemetery.

A 1969 census of Lindley Cemetery, conducted by Wilma Roesler, recorded a headstone for Joseph McConn's first wife, Jane (maiden name unknown). That headstone included her name, Jane, and that she was the "Wife of Joseph McConn" and died August 15, 1850. Her age at death was not on the stone. It's unclear whether this headstone still stands.

There was one plain marker with no inscription next to Jane. Was this the marker for Rachel (Kirk) McConn?

Several plots down, was a headstone with the letters "J.McC." which is believed to be the grave of Joseph McConn. Next to his headstone there were two sandstone markers with no inscriptions. Perhaps one of these sandstone markers was for Rachel (Kirk) McConn. We're in search of photographs of the markers in this section to examine for further clues.
