Joseph D. Sparish, 81, of Cumberland died March 11 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn. Funeral services were Wednesday morning at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cumberland, with the Revs. David Lusson and Michael Jennrich officiating and burial at the church cemetery. Military honors were accorded by Anderson-Thomson Post 98 American Legion of Cumberland.

Mr. Sparish was born Feb. 28, 1926 in Cumberland to Fred and Christine (Conzone) Sparish. He married Evelyn Wuorenma on Oct. 16, 1948 in Cumberland. Mr. Sparish served with the Navy in Okinawa and Japan during WW II and belonged to the American Legion. He was a lifelong Cumberland resident, had a hobby farm his whole life and worked at 3M for 32 years. He was a 4-H leader for many years and also served on the Crystal Lake Town Board.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three sons, James of Cumberland, Richard of Comstock and David of Pulaski; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester of Cumberland and Mike of Clam Falls; and four sisters, Connie Nicholas of Cambridge, Minn., Rose Johnston of Minneapolis, Margaret Johnson of Alexandria, Minn., and Louise Jennrich of Nevada, Iowa.
