Clara Mae Jones

Clara Mae Jones, age 89, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Edina, MO, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  She was born June 17, 1928, in Shelbyville, MO, the daughter of William Lee and Virginia Ann Howard Minter.  She was united in marriage to Chester Junior Jones on October 23, 1976, in Edina, MO and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1997.  Clara was also preceded by her parents, three children, John R. Abbey, April Lee Abbey and Charles V.L. Snoddy, three sisters, Velma Green, Mary Minter and Lola Richardson, six brothers, Howard, Roland, John, Wilbur, James, and Donald Ray Minter, one grandchild Ontonio Snoddy and two great grandchildren, Elikia King, and Markele Marques.
Surviving are seven children, Boyd Snoddy of Columbia, MO, Mary King of Peoria IL, Teanna Snoddy of Peoria, IL, Randolph Snoddy of Quincy, IL, Michele (Jerry) Moore of Peoria, IL, Irvin (Vicki) Childs of Quincy, IL, and Dennis (Wynetta) Childs of Macon, MO, twenty-seven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, two brothers, Orville Minter of LaGrange, MO and Willard (Adonna) Minter of Houston, TX, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Clara Mae received her education in Shelby County Elementary Schools, graduated from Douglas High School in Hannibal, MO, and attended Gem City Business College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Nutrition.  She developed and organized the Food Pantry with the Ministerial Alliance in Edina serving the entire Knox County area.  She was an avid community leader and activist.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, fishing hunting and spending time with her family.  In addition to being a foster parent and grandmother for many children throughout Northeast Missouri;  she nurtured and cared for individuals both  young and old alike.  Clara belonged to several social club that included:  the Fannie R. Griffin Art Club in Hannibal, MO, the Illinois Association of Colored Women Club and the Missouri Association of Colored Women's Club which encouraged and empowered young girls and women to pursue academic excellence.  She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, MO.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.  Minister Patrick Minter will officiate.  Burial will be in Linville Cemetery.  Musical selections performed by Carrie Griffith will be How Great thou Art and His Eye Is On The Sparrow.  Casket bearers will be John King, Rashad Snoddy, Randon Mallory, Daniel Dovin, David Dovin, Darrell Dean, John Perkins and Albert Lawson.  Honorary bearers will be John Robert Abbey, April Lee Abbey, Charles Virgil Lee Snoddy, Michael Elijah Lee Hayes, Tahveece Chester Snoddy, Taurean Charles Snoddy and Jerry Moore.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018, from 1-2 p.m. services to immediately follow 2 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
