Earl Powers, Jr.

Earl H. Powers, Jr., 76, of Somerville, died August 9, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Powers retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after serving 20 years in the U. S. Air Force. As a civilian, he worked as a production manager at Audiotronics, Inc. in Memphis until he retired in 1991. He was born October 29, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, son of the late Earl Hobson Powers, Sr. and Icy Grantham Powers and had lived in Somerville since 1967. Mr. Powers, a lifelong hunter and fisherman, was a member of Parks Chapel Methodist Church and he leaves behind many friends and family members.

Services were held August 12, 2005 at Shackelford Funeral Directors Bolivar chapel with Gordon Henderson and Carol Rusché officiating. Burial was in the Parks Chapel Cemetery near Somerville with David and Ronald Markle, Jeffrey and John Barry Earnest, Philip Rusché and Bill Powers serving as casket bearers and Jimmy Powers, Don H. Earnest and Buddy Piazza as honorary casket bearers. Michael Landman was a posthumous honorary casket bearer.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Powers is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucille Earnest Powers whom he married October 23, 1954; his son, Michael Powers of Savannah and daughter, Carol Powers Rusché and her husband, Philip, of Easton, Penn. In addition are his loving sisters and brothers, Frankie Holden, Peggy Cox, Sadie Davis, Inez Voyles, Valeria Bishop, Bill Powers and Jimmy Powers, all of the Somerville and Hickory Valley areas, and numerous very special nieces and nephews. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Parks Chapel Cemetery or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
