After her father died she and her mother lived with Alma's great-grandfather, Charles Elford, a druggist in Orford Township, Kent County, Ontario. Later she lived with her great-aunt and great-uncle, Mary Ann Tait and Isaac C. Nevills, in Rudolph, Wood County, Ohio where she went to school. She died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she had worked as a secretary in the steel industry. She was buried in Duart Cemetery on 29 Mar 1959 according to her Pennsylvania death registration.
