Leon M. Adkins, 86 of Cambridge, went to his heavenly home on Monday March 26, 2007. He was born in Cambridge on November 13, 1920 and was the son of the late Leon M. and Cornelia Warst Adkins, Sr. He attended schools in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937. On November 21, 1940 he was married to the former Ruth Hughes. Mr. Adkins was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he had started the Memorial Fund, and had also been active in a number of various functions at St. Paul's Church. Some years ago he had also helped begin the cleanup at Greenlawn Cemetery. Mr. Adkins was an honorary member of Rescue Fire Co. in Cambridge. Some years ago he was a founding partner in Adho refuse removal in Cambridge and for numerous years he had worked as a service manager for Don Bennett's Chrysler in Cambridge and for many years at Johnson Motors in Cambridge. He was stricken suddenly at his home on Monday where he passed away. Survivors include his wife of 66 years Ruth H. Adkins of Cambridge, one daughter Anna Ruth Pope and her husband David R. Pope of Cambridge, two grand daughters Dee Mills and her husband Steve M. Mills, Sr. of Woolford and Michelle R. Pope of Cambridge and two great grandsons Stevie Mills, Jr. and David "Cole" Mills. A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Bahr, Rev. Douglas M. Ridley and the Rev. Thomas W. Hurley officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, C/O Mr. Richard Hargis, 205 Maryland Avenue Cambridge, MD or to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Steve Mills, Stevie Mills, Cole Mills, Tim McCarter, Ben McCarter, Eddie Bramble, Claude Gootee, Mark Gootee and Gary White. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
