Derek LaRoy Baldwin age 46, died Dec. 15, 2017 of a heart attack, He was born in Portland to Roy Baldwin and Phyllis (Scarborough) Baldwin. He was a gifted athlete, playing soccer, baseball, basketball, football and track. He broke state and school records in track and field and was a stand out wide receiver at Benson High School who assisted the team to the state championship in 1989. He attended Portland State University where he earned a B.A. in Communication and Psychology. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons and went on to play in the Canadian Football League and overseas. Returning to Portland with his bright smile and big personality, Derek became a successful model. He loved the limelight, being in front of and behind the camera, motorcycles, off-roading, the outdoors and firearms. He worked for Leupold & Stevens Inc., as a Tech Service Rep. Of all of his adventures and accolades, his greatest accomplishment was that of being a father to his two sons, Derek LaRoy Baldwin II, age 4 and Royal Laird Baldwin, age 2. He took tremendous joy in being a father and felt it was his most rewarding and important role. Along with his sons, Derek is survived by his mother, Phyllis Scarborough Baldwin; stepfather, Johnny Ardery; his sisters, Chris, Tracie and Tiffani Baldwin; nephew, Dwight Minnieweather and niece Ashleigh Beard. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Baldwin; and grandmother, Zelma Scarborough.
