On February 9, 1938, Josephine married Hiette Sinclair Williams, Jr. (U. S. Army Air Force) at Langley Field, Virginia, and they divorced in 1947 in Broward County, Florida. They had a daughter Allen Williams.

In 1951, Josephine Andrews married Louis I. Whitlock Jr. in Miami.

Louis I Whitlock Jr. '33

Luke Whitlock died August 23, 1993. He had lived in South Miami, Fla., for many years.

Luke was born in Elizabeth, N.J. He prepared at Pingry and Hun. In college, he was a member of Tiger Inn. He roomed at first with his cousin Ham Whitlock, later with his brother Al, and then with Cy Smith and Frank Glazebrook.

Luke spent 5 years with the Whitlock Cordage Co., and then took up truck farming. After raising tomatoes in Tobago, B.W.I., he joined B.W.I. Airways and American Airlines. He then went into the horticulture business - design and supply - in Miami.

In 1951, Luke married Josephine Andrews in Miami. She died in 1977. She had a daughter, Allen Williams, who survives.

In addition to our two late classmates, Al and Ham, and his late father, Louis '07, Luke had many cousins and other relatives, many of whom were Princeton Alumni. His sister Marilyn, the wife of Dr. E. Tremaine Bradley'31, has kept us informed about Luke's life in recent years, when he has not been well.

To all the family, the Class of '33 extends its deep sympathy.

Louis I. Whitlock

Associated with the Whitlock Cordage Co. since his graduation from college, Louis I. Whitlock has been engaged in the rope manufacturing business, with which his family has been connected continuously since 1815. At that time, his great great uncle, Sidney B. Whitlock, was one of the founders of the former company at Elizabethport. In the present company which has its factory at the foot of Lafayette St. in Jersey City, Mr. Whitlock holds the position of treasurer, to which he advanced after having been associated with the concern for 14 years. In Elizabeth, Mr. Whitlock has been active in community affairs, serving on education boards and in religious institutions. Well known throughout this district, he has been a member of social and civic organizations here. His residence is maintained in Elizabeth.

Mr. Whitlock was born in Elizabeth on March 24th 1884, son of Willard P. and Annie V. (Allen) Whitlock. His mother who was a native of Peterson, died in 1938. His father, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., was president of the Whitlock Cordage Co. until his death in 1924.

Growing up at Elizabeth, Louis I. received his education there, graduating from the Pingrey School in 1903. He then matriculated at Princeton University, where he graduated with honors in 1907, with the degree of Civil Engineer.

Since that time, he has bee associated with the Whitlock Cordage Co. He became assistant treasurer in 1914, and in 1921 advanced to the position of treasurer, which he continues to occupy at the present time.
The rope business was originally established in 1925, as the Elizabethport Cortage Co. by Sidney B. Whitlock and Associates. This company continued to operate there until 1891, when it was destroyed by fire; a successor corporation was organized in the same year by Willard P. Whitlock (father of Louis I.), but had its place of operation in Brooklyn, where it continued until 1905.

In that year, a new plant began operating at the foot of Lafayette St. in Jersey City, which is the present factory location of the Whitlock Cordage Co. This firm manufactures fiber, rope and twine. Its main office is at No. 45 South St. in New York City. The company employs about 300 workers in its operations.

Present officers of the Whitlock Cordage Co. are: President, Harold A. Whitlock; Vice President, Willard P. Whitlock, Jr.; Treasurer, Louis I. Whitlock; Secretary, Herbert V. Whitlock; and Assistant Treasurer and Superintendent, Hamilton J. Whitlock.

Mr. Whitlock is a Republican in politics. In the school in which he received his preparatory education, the Pingry School, he served as a trustee for 15 years, and was for a similar length of time a trustee of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. His social affiliations include the Princeton Club of New York; the Downtown Athletic Club of New York City, the Elizabeth Town and Country Club; and the Baltasrol Golf Club.

On June 14, 1909, Louis I. Whitlock was married to Mary H. Myers, of Elizabeth, daughter of James Lawrence and Amelia O. (Allen) Myers. They are the parents of four children: 1. Allen M., a major in the United States Army Air Corps, who is married and the father of a son John A. 2. Louis I. Jr., married. 3. James P., a lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve, who is married and has a son, James P., Jr. 4. Marilyn, who is the wife of lieutenant Dana C. Ackerly (army of the United States), of New York City, and has a son, Dana P. Ackerly, 2d.
