Funeral services for Gayle Young will be conducted from the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church of Holdrege on Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Fienen officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery at Wilcox.
Mr. Young, 76, of Holdrege died Wednesday, June 9 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born on October 15, 1916 in Holdrege, one of seven children of Alfred and Theckla (Engberg) Young. He attended school at Atlanta and graduated from the Atlanta High School with the class of 1934.
He entered the U.S. Army on March 12, 1942 at t. Leonard Wood, Kansas. He attained the rank if staff sergeant with Company D, 707 Tank Battalion. He was honorably discharged on October 22, 1945 at Ft. Leonard Wood. Upon his discharge, he returned to Atlanta.
On June 2, 1946 he was united in marriage to Arline Schubert, and they made their home in Holdrege. He worked several jobs in Holdrege and retired from the Postal Service in 1978.
He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. and American Legion Post No. 66 of Holdrege.
Survivors include one son, Ivan Young and his wife, Beverly, and two grandsons, Kristopher and Kim Young, all of Waverly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arline in 1992, four brothers: Wilbert, Lester, Earl, and Lawrence and two sisters: Ruth and Fern.
