Obituary. Max Wayne Roberts, age 88, left his mortal body to cross the veil to paradise on January 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. in Spanish Fork, Utah.

He suffered a fall and hip fracture, a week before his death, followed by declining consciousness and fever. He took his last breath, after being given permission to leave this world, by his loving wife, at his side and holding his hand. He was peaceful at his passing, with his wife and daughters singing to him.

He had suffered over the last year with cerebrovascular disease causing multiple small strokes, leading to loss of speech and dementia.

His is a story of overcoming poverty, from his birth, on April 30, 1929, in Rexburg, Idaho in a house with a dirt floor house and the second poorest family in town, to become a dedicated servant to the Lord, and to serve all those around him.

The pinnacle of Important events in his life was his Marriage to Sara Patricia Taylor in the Oakland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 27, 1965. He had been previously married to Geraldine Patricia Gardner, with whom he had 4 children.

He had multiple infectious qualities. He was energetic, giving, committed to church and family. He had outrageous humor, including expressive funny facial expressions. He was welcoming to guests, and friendly to everyone.

He was gifted mechanically and had a bright mind. From his poverty, he escalated his station professionally by starting as an apprentice in appliance repair and rose to become the National appliance manager for Montgomery Ward department stores. His retirement consisted of managing several businesses, usually refusing any payment. He gave without thought of remuneration. He was always available to help with household and business projects.

He loved to work with wood, and was constantly busy in his workshop, carving and engraving signs and creating all kinds of woodwork. He loved his garden, and had advanced skill and designs for planting. The degree of commitment included brick encased elevated gardens (that were ornate enough to be mistaken for mausoleums), and which had electrified borders to repel feline friends from mistaking it for a litter box.

He was always very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Politically, he was very conservative, and an avid supporter of the Republican Party. He was active in local politics and was on the Payson City Council.

His love and devotion to his wife Sara Patricia Taylor Roberts is legendary.

His passing affects many family members. He will be missed by his large living posterity that includes 7 children, 45 Grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. His children include: Sandra Roberts Smith (9 children, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild), Judy Roberts Barrows (Kendall) (5 children, 10 grandchildren), David Roberts (Shelli), 16 children, 9 grandchildren, Mary Roberts Carpenter (Raymond), 4 children, 7 grandchildren, Derrell Roberts (Renee), Janece Roberts Justice and children and grandchildren, Dean Roberts and children, Mary Roberts Pangrazzi (deceased 2011) and 3 children.

I am certain that he has been joyfully greeted across the veil by those who preceded him in death, including his daughter Mary Roberts (Pangrazzi) and granddaughter Stephanie Lynne Smith, his parents Hugh Eugene Roberts and Gladys Leila Roberts, and all his siblings (John, Iris, Lynn, Mary, Delavon, and Gloria)

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Fork East Stake Center Chapel, 1150 E. 1240 South, Spanish Fork, Utah. Family and friends may visit on Saturday morning at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
