Mrs. LaVerne Ruth Boyd passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Ennis surrounded by her loving family.

LaVerne was born November 8, 1923 in Handley, Texas to Walter L. and Bertha Mustard Thieleman. She married Gene Boyd, December 21, 1944 in Dallas. On June 15, 1946, LaVerne and Gene had a daughter, Barbara Eileen, and lived in a studio apartment. Gene commuted by train to Dallas where he worked for Neiman Marcus. LaVerne stayed at home and cared for the new baby. On the weekends, Gene would keep the baby and LaVerne would work as a waitress at the Plantation in Dallas. Rumor has that she once received a $20 tip!

LaVerne worked not only as a housewife and mother, but she worked at Gibson’s Discount Center as the Bookkeeper. She continued to support his mission endeavors with World Hunger Relief, Hands and Texas Baptist Men until his death in 1989. Gene and LaVerne were also active in Masonic and Eastern Star activities.

She moved from Waco to Mexia, after Gene’s death, and resumed the many friendships she had in the community. She was instrumental in starting an exercise group for senior adults at First Baptist Church.

In 2002, LaVerne moved from Mexia to Ennis to be closer to her daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Aubrey. She continued to be active with the senior adults in the Tabernacle Baptist Church and in her apartment complex until her health demanded she transition to assisted living. She moved in with Barbara and Aubrey in 2011 where she stayed for six years. Her health again demanded she transition to long term care in 2017.

She was blessed to have such a loving and caring family. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren brought her so much pleasure and she adored them all.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; and sisters, Dorothy Moreland and Walterine Thieleman.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Boyd Jones and husband Aubrey of Ennis, Robert Gene Boyd and wife Paula of Waco and Linda Boyd Brannon and husband David of Northboro, MA, Grandchildren, Karen Elizabeth Patrick and husband Rick, Christopher Pratt Jones and wife Sylvia, Brian Farris Jones and wife Joyce, Benjamin Gene Boyd and wife Courtney, Sarah Lindley Lester and husband Tim, Thomas Maeker Boyd and wife Kendra, Jonathan Wayne Brannon and wife Kate, Laura Ruth Halloran and husband Kevin, Mary Catherine Brannon and Katie Lee Neidig and husband AJ, Great Grandchildren, Tyler John Patrick, Evan Thomas Patrick, Abigail Smith, Bain Boyd Smith, Lindsey Smith, Zoe Isabella Jones, Aidan Patrick Jones, Kayleigh Joyce Jones, Hunter Beck Boyd, Brittyn Jane Boyd, James Thomas Lester, Emma Elizabeth Boyd, Austyn Elisabeth Galloway, Emersyn Marie Brannon, Rory Eugene Charles Halloran, Ella Ruth Halloran, Lenore Beverly Lembo and Georgia Lee Neidig, Great Great Grandchildren, Conner Almon, Emerson Almon and Sophia Smith, Sister, Cora Mae (Pat) Walker of Takoma, WA.
