Barbara J. Anastasia

OLEAN - Barbara J. Anastasia, of 203 N. 19th St., Olean, passed away unexpectedly Monday (Jan. 8, 2018) at Olean General Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband, family and friends.

Born Nov. 4, 1957, in Olean, she was the daughter of Gordon and June King Hooper. On April 1, 1995, she married the love of her life, Jeff Anastasia, who survives.

Barb attended Olean High School. She worked as a teacher's aide for BOCES in Olean for 35 years, where she touched the lives of her students, peers and all others with whom she came in contact throughout her career.

Barb collected teddy bears and loved spending time with her grandchildren, who were "the apples of her eye." She loved doing anything and everything with her soulmate, Jeff, including their annual trip to Las Vegas, Nev.

In addition to her husband, Barb is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Lisa Curtis) Shaw of Olean and Michael Shaw of Bowmansville; two step-children, Michael Anastasia of Rochester and Danielle Anastasia of Manhattan; her grandchildren, Jakarri and Sydney Shaw, Alfred Shaw, Ricky Dones, Ryan Baptista Jr.; and the children of Lisa Curtis, Ryan Curtis, Janelle Hollowell and Zachary Ramsey; siblings, Deborah (Darryl) Campagnari of Florida, Linda (Gary) Wood of Westons Mills and Gordon Hooper of Tennessee; her mother and father-in-law, Marlene and Ronald Anastasia of Olean; her sisters-in-law, Kim Bihler and Lori Anastasia, both of Olean; her brother-in-law, Randy Anastasia of Glens Falls; several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Mary Lou (Jerry) Smidt; and her dear friends, Jeff and Laurel Archey, Hank and Debbie Post, Theresa DiPietro and Wanda Stebbins.

She was predeceased by her grandmothers, Betty King and Dorothy Shaw.

Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
