Born Elvira Walsh but known to family and friends as Vera, Sister Mary Josita Walsh entered the Sisters of Mercy in Brooklyn, New York in September of 1943 adopting the motto "a heart for love, a life for sacrifice." She was the daughter of Michael Walsh and Margaret Foster Walsh. Sister Josita served for over 30 years as a teacher in the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre, New York. She also ministered as a canonical attorney for 20 years in the Tribunal of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Blessed with a brilliant mind, fun-loving spirit and love of people, especially for her Mercy community, Josita enlivened every conversation. Josita was the aunt of Sister of Mercy JoAnn Marie Walsh and the sister of the late Sister Mary Eymard Walsh. Predeceased by her five brothers, Frank, Steve, Joe, Eddie, and Howie, and three sisters, Margie, Marie, and Doris, Vera will be missed by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends as well as the Sisters of Mercy.
