Merlin James Centers, 80, of Latham died 5:25 p.m. Monday (April 9, 1990) in McKinley Terrace Nursing Home, Decatur. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Latham Baptist Church. Ministers: Rev. Darrell Seest and Rev. Bruce Bigelow officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mount Pulaski. Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery, rural Mount Pulaski. Memorials: Latham Baptist Church.
Mr. Centers was born on Sept. 24, 1909 in Logan County, son of Charles B. and Lizzie Kindred Centers. He was a former owner of Centers Plumbing, Heating & Electrical in Latham and member of Latham Baptist Church. He married Mary M. Collins in 1931. She died in 1959. He married Mary E. Carr Caton in 1960.
Surviving are his wife; son, Charles "Chuck" of Decatur; daughters, Willa Mae Yagow of Decatur; Mary Anne Pyne of Owensboro, Ky.; stepson, Harvey Caton of Reno, Nev.; sister, Viola DeMarco of Springfield; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
One son and one daughter preceded him in death.
