F. G. "Shorty" Busenius, 73, died Sunday, Sept. 12. The Ellerslie, Alberta, native was born Oct. 30, 1908.

He is survived by his wife Velma of Covelo; children, Beverly Cole, Sadie Card, and Mary Mayfield, all of Eureka, Kay Carper of Fieldbrook, F.G. Jr. of McKinleyville, David of Oklahoma, Steven of Vancouver, Wash., James of Rochester, Minn., and Sally Johnson of Vancouver, Wash.; step-children Donald Marion and George Cunningham, both of Eureka; James Marion of Roswell, N.M., and Lois Hanover of Covelo; sisters and brothers, Rafina Kluth, Jack, Ben and Albert, all of Puyallup, Wash., and Renata and David, both of Edmonton, Alberta; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.

Mr. Busenius came to Covelo in 1962 and worked as a crane operator at the Louisiana-Pacific mill until his retirement. At various times after that, he worked for the Covelo Indian Community Council, the Round Valley Indian Housing Authority and the Mendocino Transit Authority.

He was a member of the Round Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was well known for his many floats in the annual FFA Field Day parade and his participation in community affairs.
