Zook, John Kore, son of John Paul and Rachel (Detweiler) Zook, was born at Belleville, Pa., Feb. 7, 1894; died at Schowalter Villa, Hesston, Kan., Jan. 5, 1984; aged 89 y. On May 18, 1919, he was married to Ruth Cooprider, who survives. Also surviving are 4 daughters (Ethel, Lais, Alma Lais, Kathryn, and Irene Martin of Denver), 4 sons (Wesley, Harold, Wilbur, and Herbert), 29 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He attended Hesston Academy for 3 years. In 1925 - 1928, he served as minister in the Manitou Mennonite Church in Colorado; followed by pastorates in Roseland, Nebraska, until 1933; and in Morrison, Illinois, until 1937. In 1940, the family purchased and operated a farm near St. Johns, Michigan, until 1957, while J. Kore served as pastor of the nearby Ashley Mennonite congregation. In 1954, J. Kore retired from full-time pastoring, and the Zooks moved to Goshen, Indiana, and travelled extensively. During this time, J. Kore served as interim pastor in various locations, including Blounstown, Florida, and Rittman, Ohio. He was a member of Hesston Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Jan. 7, in charge of Jerry Quiring and Wesley Jantz; interment in Eastlawn Cemetery.
