George Neal Oldham

George Neal Oldham was born on May 21, 1921 to Claudia Mae Amberson and James Allison Oldham. George married Anna Ashby July 3, 1942 at Vancouver, Clark, Washington.

George and Anna were both fun-loving and outgoing people. George entered World War II in Jan 1943. He graduated as Flight Officer in the U.S. Air Force in June 1945 at Douglas Air Force Base in Douglas, Arizona. He was a pilot, lumber jack, airplane mechanic and truck driver.

George and Anna had three sons: Leslie Carrel Oldham, Stephen George Oldham and James Allison Oldham. George was predeceased by Leslie in 1965.

George died December 14, 1972 in an oil company truck rollover on an icy road 8 miles north of Rangely, Colorado.

TRUCK ACCIDENT TAKES LOCAL DRIVER

George Neal Oldham died December 14 of injuries suffered in a truck accident 8 miles northwest of Rangely, when his semi-truck went out of control and rolled over. Colorado Highway Patrolman Mark Northrup said the northbound rig skidded across the highway and the two parts of the truck separated.

He was born May 21, 1922, in Delano, California to James Allison and Claudia Amberson Oldham. He married Anna Ashby July 3, 1942 in Vancouver, Washington. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mr. Oldham was a truck driver and a commercial pilot. He was a member of the LDS Church and formerly served on the Stake MIA. He had been in the Elders Quorum Presidency, was assistant Scout Master and was Sunday School teacher. He also served in the MIA Superintencdancy. He was a former employee of P.I. E.

SURVIVORS: widow, Vernal; two sons, Stephen George, Casper, Wyoming and James A., Vernal; 11 grandchildren; mother, Tillmook, Oregon; brother, Hal S., San Mateo, California.

Funeral services were held Monday December 18 in the Maeser Ward Chapel. Bishop Norwood Hardy conducted.

Harold Ashby offered the family prayer. Mary Schaefermeyer played the prelude and postlude music. Lorna Condon played "Melody of Love" on the violin. The invocation was given by Kenny Ashby. Bishop Hardy offered remarks and read a poem. President and Glade Sowards sang "O My Father."

Wayne Goodrich gave Mr. Oldham's life history and a poem "High Flight." Terry Anderson and Verdon Goodrich sang "Air Force Song." Bishop Harvey McKee was the closing speaker with a musical "Silver Haired Daddy of Mine." by Dana Dee Smith.

Benediction was by Ivan Hall. Ward Ashby dedicated the grave. Burial was in the Maeser Cemetery. Maeser First Ward Relief Society was in charge of the flowers.

Pallbearers were Lorin Hacking, Grant Merrill, James Jenkins, Harold Gee, Richard Mons and Robert Renwick. Honorary pallbearers were the Maeser 1st Ward Elders.

Those from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Clarin Ashby family, Roosevelt; Ferron Petersons, Harold Gees, both Duchesne; Bruce Halls, LuDeen Winegar, Mary McBride, David Ashbys, Dennis Ashbys and the Ward Ashbys, all of Salt Lake City.
