James Lazarus Kedis, 78, of Twentynine Palms and Long Beach, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at his home in Long Beach.

Jim was born August 20, 1939 in Los Angeles to Gus Kedis and Sophia Kedis (Sakalis). He was married to Suzanne C. Wilson (Kedis) for 55 years.

He spent most of his childhood in Long Beach. In 1967, he moved to Twentynine Palms to work at the KB Market as a butcher. In 1971, he along with his brother-in-law, George Hall, bought Bagley’s market and renamed it Plaza Market.

Jim was a long-time resident of Twentynine Palms and along with the Plaza Market owned several other businesses in the community from 1971 to 2000 including two restaurants, a clothing store and eventually his deli, Jimmy the Greeks. In 2002, Jim retired and moved back to Long Beach to be closer to his family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Suzanne Kedis; brother John Kedis; his five children, Michael Kedis, Sheila Salamunovich (Kedis), Angie Keppel (Kedis,) Patrick Kedis and Timothy Kedis; and his six grandchildren, Adam Kedis, Hannah Salamunovich, Theresa Salamuovich, Sadie Parsons, Wallace Keppel and Sarah Kedis.

Jim was devoted to his family, his faith, his church (Blessed Sacrament), his friends and his community (Twentynine Palms).
