Author. She was an acclaimed science fiction writer. A best-selling author, Ursula K. Le Guin was born the daughter of two famous anthropologists, Alfred L. Kroeber and Theodora Quinn Kroeber and was heavily influenced by anthropology. At a young age Le Guin immersed herself in science fiction magazines but lost interest because the stories "seemed to be all about hardware and soldiers: White men go forth and conquer the universe." In response she created the field of social science fiction. Her most well-known science fiction novel may have been the best selling The Left Hand of Darkness, a recipient of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards. Multiple times Le Guin was the recipient of the Locus Award, the Nebula Award, the Hugo Award, and the World Fantasy Award. In 2000 she was named a Living Legend by the Library of Congress. In 2003 the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America made her a Grand Master.
