Naugatuck - Josephine (Nero) DeGrazia, 93, a native of Italy and longtime Danbury resident, died January 21, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. DeGrazia was the wife of the late John W. "Red" Degrazia. They were married September of 1947.
Josephine was born in San Bernardo de Catanzaro, Italy, the eldest daughter of Vincenzina and Francesco Nero. She immigrated to the United States in 1937 and settled in Danbury where she attended St. Joseph School and Church. In her later years she was an active member of St. Gregory the Great Church. During her life she was an avid gardener, seamstress, and finished her working career at Amphenol Corporation. She was an active member of the Colonna Lodge of the Amerigo Vespucci Society. Proud to be an Italian-American, she helped at numerous cultural events in the Danbury Community including "A Touch of Italy in Danbury."

Josephine is survived by son William A. DeGrazia and his wife MaryAnne of Cheshire, devoted daughter and caregiver, Laura DeGrazia and her husband Samuel Smith of Naugatuck, brother Nicholas V. Nero and his wife Barbara and brother-in-law Arnold Tomaino. In addition, Josephine is also survived by her four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Josephine led a giving life as exemplified by the fact that she was godmother to seven children. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Mary "Vennie" Cranner and Frances Tomaino, and her in-laws.

Josephine's family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday January 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
