Carolyn Ruth Nunnery, 73, of Bryan, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Burial will be at Myrtle Cemetery.

Carolyn was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Alfred Lee Sr. and Catherine McKinley Ainsworth. Her father worked for Texaco in the refineries of the gulf while her mother took care of the home.

Growing up as the only daughter with three older brothers, Carolyn went to a lot of football games. Although she loved her brothers, Junior and Bo, she was especially close with her brother, Charlie. He taught her to drive when she was just nine years old. They grew up in Groves, a little country community just outside of Port Arthur.

Her father raised all the vegetables he could in his garden. He had chickens also, but Carolyn’s mother did not like to see them killed, so she would try to shoo them away, saying, "Run Lil' chicken!" Carolyn enjoyed being a "rainbow girl" in the Eastern Star. As a teenager going to school in Groves, she loved going to dances, especially if she could dance to Elvis songs. She married for the first time shortly after graduating.

Although Carolyn had difficult marriages, they did provide her with her precious children and many opportunities. She was blessed with four children: Tammy, Tom, Candy, and Wendell. Being a young mother was difficult, but she was helped out a lot by her parents. She loved her children with all her heart.

One of her marriages forced Carolyn to move often, which she did not like, but one move was to Indonesia. She enjoyed traveling there. One of her marriages resulted in a very close relationship with her husband’s daughter, Cassie Holmes. Carolyn visited Hawaii twice to spend time with Cassie.

Carolyn was blessed greatly with her marriage to Timothy "Tim" Eugene Nunnery. They met when she was working in Hearne and he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. They had a church ceremony in 1999.

Carolyn worked for many years as a dental assistant, which she loved. Through the years she also worked briefly for Texas A&M in the animal science lab and at the Christmas store in College Station. She was an energetic housekeeper – to the point of OCD at times. She enjoyed ironing and anything crafty. She made beautiful flower arrangements and loved bling. Carolyn was fun and energetic and enjoyed her make-up and long nails. Until her eyes got too bad, she read a lot.

Carolyn had a close relationship with the Lord. She worked with Meals on Wheels in the past and occasionally attended Grace Bible Church. She loved the Lord deeply and talked to him daily, like her best friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Nunnery, in 2006; and her son, Wendell Holmes.

Survivors include her daughters, Tammy Barnett and her husband, James, and Candy Vinson and her husband, Brent; son, Tom Finch and his wife, Krista; daughter-in-law, Jessica Holmes; stepdaughter, Cassie Holmes; grandchildren: Kendra Finch, Carly Luther and her husband, Auston, Shayleigh Vinson, Sabriel Vinson, Megan Davidson and her husband, Sonny, Guy Holmes, Sydney Holmes, Josh Barnett, Garrett Barnett, Jayme Telg, and April Barnett; great-grandchildren: Olivia, Lillie, Conner, Austin, Ryan, Ava, and Cameron; other relatives and many friends.
