Wanda Olson, 61, Minot, ND, passed away peacefully Monday, January 22, 2018, at her home, surrounded by those that love her.

Wanda Marie was born July 25, 1956, the daughter of Asmun “Dick” Asmundson and Ione Mehus, in Minot, ND. Wanda’s father died in an automobile accident before she was born. Her younger sister, Shelley, also passed away at the age of 5 from heart complications. Wanda was raised and educated in Minot.

Wanda was once married to Paul E. Olson. From this marriage, two children were born: Jesse and Melissa. Wanda was a stay at home mother for many years while her children were young. She was an Avon representative for a short time and taught Sunday school at St. Mark’s Lutheran church before going to work at Kalix in the year of 1994 (formally known as the Minot Vocational Adjustment Workshop). Working as a support staff, Wanda formed many special friendships and bonds with residents and coworkers. She took pride in what she did and held the friendships she made with them dear to her heart. She retired in November of 2017 after 23 years spent with Kalix, due to a battle with incurable cancer. She fought cancer with dignity and the support of family and friends, especially the fulltime care from her loving daughter Melissa.

Wanda cherished her summer months spent at the lake with family and friends; watching the sunsets, sitting by the shore and visiting by the fire. Wanda’s family always came before anyone and anything, even herself. She also enjoyed and looked forward to attending country concerts at the North Dakota State Fair. She will be missed by all that knew her and most importantly by family and friends.

Her loving family includes:

Children, Jesse Olson, Minot and Melissa Olson, Minot; grandchildren, Kelsey (Logan Daeley), Colton, Brody and Hayden; special friend, Dale Martinson, Minot; aunt, Elaine (Lyle) Johnson, Minot; sister-in-law, Deb Olson (Lloyd Yantes), Minot; best friend, Linda (Daniel) Seaman, Minot; numerous cousins; and the extended Berdahl family.

Wanda was preceded in death by her loving mother Ione Mehus; father, Dick Asmundson; sister, Shelley Clementich; mother-in-law, Beverly Olson; grandparents, aunts and uncles.
